The Vegas Golden Knights opened their season with a 5-2 home-ice victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, capping a Gold Carpet ceremony that weathered rain and threatening skies throughout the day.

The win marked the first NHL victory for Head Coach Ryan Craig and featured an impressive debut from rookie Trevor Connelly, who scored his first NHL goal. Veterans Jack Eichel and Mark Stone also scored in the victory.

"I'm happy for Trevor, happy for his family, happy for our organization," Craig said after the game. "There's a lot of people that have put in good work with all our prospects – from the scouts, to the player development, to everybody. Trevor has shown there's a path here for our players, as has Bowman and different guys like that. It's great to see those guys get rewarded."

Connelly's immediate impact reflects the organization's player development system, which has produced other recent contributors including Braeden Bowman, who appeared in the opening-night lineup after a strong 54-game showing last season.

While the NHL squad celebrates their championship-opening victory, the Henderson Silver Knights shift focus to their AHL home opener on Saturday against the Bakersfield Condors at Lee's Family Forum. The AHL season carries a different dynamic, with recently reassigned players working to earn call-up opportunities to the parent club.

The HSK brings back several key contributors from last season, including Captain Jaycob Megna, defenseman Villiam Kmec, goaltender Carl Lindbom, and goaltender Cameron Whitehead. The team added veteran depth to the blue line with Ville Heinola, Adam Ginning, and Antti Tuomisto, who brings three AHL seasons from the Detroit Red Wings organization.

Young forwards including Kai Uchacz, Ben Hemmerling, and Jackson Hallum return to build on their progress, while rookie Alex Weiremair will make his AHL debut after impressing in preseason and exhibition play.

First-year HSK Head Coach Joel Ward will lean on the goaltending duo of Lindbom and Whitehead to anchor the team's foundation. Lindbom backed up his solid rookie campaign with an even stronger sophomore year, while Whitehead looks to refine his technique in his second professional season.

Fans attending Saturday's home opener will have a chance to meet and greet players in the Tiltyard beginning at 3:30 PM. The first 3,000 fans will receive a foam Knights shield.
