The Vegas Golden Knights fell to the Anaheim Ducks 4-3 on Friday night at T-Mobile Arena, dropping to 1-1-0 to start the season.
The Ducks built a commanding 4-0 lead by the end of the second period. Beckett Sennecke scored with eight seconds left in the first period, and Anaheim extended its advantage in the second as Alex Killorn and Jeff Malott scored 55 seconds apart. Leo Carlsson added another goal to give the Ducks a four-goal cushion entering the third.
Vegas mounted a comeback in the final frame but fell one goal short. Shea Theodore scored five minutes into the third period with assists from Brett Howden and Jack Eichel. Howden collected the puck following a corner battle initiated by Eichel and sent a pass to Theodore from behind the net, where Theodore fired it home from the dot.
Tomas Hertl scored his first goal of the season just 90 seconds later on the power play, with Mitch Marner providing a net-front pass. Eichel earned his second assist of the night, bringing his two-game total to five points.
With 2:50 remaining, Braeden Bowman narrowed the deficit to one with a wrist shot after picking up a rebound from Victor Olofsson. The Golden Knights could not generate another goal before the final buzzer.
Attendance at T-Mobile Arena was 17,619.
